A gamer and YouTuber has finally finished his recreation of Final Fantasy VII in the popular platformer LittleBigPlanet 2 after two years of hard work.

James Colliver documented his magnum opus on his YouTube channel, which features a playlist of 113 15-minute long videos showing the game’s levels (see above for the first video).

As Colliver has noted on a website he’s creating for the game, this remake has all of the levels, playable characters, environments, bosses and music of the original game. He’s even replicated the battle system, including summons and Limit Breaks.

It’s clear from the first few videos that the characters don’t exactly move or act the same way as the original. And the LBP modelling means the characters deviate a bit from FF7, although with the updated graphics it isn’t necessarily a problematic change. Colliver has blended the character of the original Final Fantasy VII with the platformer’s charming style, though it’s probably not going to satisfy diehard FF7 fans.

You can access the remake and try it out via Colliver’s LBP page.
