Wii U vs GameCube – The Wind Waker Remake

Updated graphics may not be enough to draw in the crowd of older fans of Wind Waker, but more than that? It just might work.

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was my very first dance with the LoZ series, so it holds one of my larger heart pieces that are spread amongst the games I love. At E3 Nintendo decided to show and compare the refurbished Wind Waker being released for the Wii U to the older GameCube version.

The Differences

The graphics are spruced up on the Wii U version to be sure, but what else is different? It’s not entirely decided, but there are rumors of Nintendo piecing back together cut content and removing the tedium of the Triforce hunt. What we do know is that Link can now change the sails on the boat to increase speed (to get the hell away from those freaky Gyorg sharks) as well as find Tingle bottles, a new feature that “allows players to post messages and images to [the] Miiverse that will appear in bottles around the game world that other people will be able to find,” as reported by Polygon.

I hope that this new Wind Waker is the gateway to other Zelda HD remakes. Like Nintendo may have intended, my love for Wind Waker definitely makes it tempting to go out and purchase it once again. Had they just improved the graphics, I probably wouldn’t consider it being that the original’s were immensely pleasing already. But, if they do indeed include some new content and improve on the more hassling elements, I may take the plunge this October when it’s released.
