Always wanted to work for Valve Software? Well, that might not be as easy as you once thought. In an interview, Gabe Newell had this to say:

“We usually don’t talk about personnel matters for a number of reasons. There seems to be an unusual amount of speculation about some recent changes here, so I thought I’d take the unusual step of addressing them. No, we aren’t cancelling any projects. No, we aren’t changing any priorities or projects we’ve been discussing. No, this isn’t about Steam or Linux or hardware or [insert game here]. We’re not going to discuss why anyone in particular is or isn’t working here.”

I guess that’s good news, as it means nothing is cancelled or changing. Hopefully we’ll still see Half-Life 3 sometime in our lifetimes. Who knows? But they have dropped quite a few people. Rumors have the numbers up around 25, but one of the people laid off, Jeri Elsworth, said that she was fired, and the employee page of Valve Software’s website is eight employees shorter than it once was.
