Anyone who played the original Resident Evil games on the PlayStation knows what the character models look like: Blocky, lacking in detail, and.. uh, blocky. Resident Evil 6 is a far cry from the original games in every way, but players missing their favorite chunks of pixels have something to look forward to on the horizon.

Capcom-Unity announced an event to unlock PS1-era character models and costumes for Resident Evil 6. The event is being hosted by residentevil.net, and will be a multi-part effort among players.

The “Zombie Mayhem” event officially starts on December 28. Players worldwide will have to kill as many zombies as possible throughout the day to reach the 15 million mark, on which one costume (out of seven) will be unlocked for all participants.

There is currently no information on when any costumes past the first one will be available, nor the tasks that players will have to complete to unlock them. But hey, this is just one of the many chunks of recent good news for Resident Evil 6 players.
