It’s only about eight seconds long, but we got our first look at Madden 21 during yesterday’s Inside Xbox event, where Microsoft showed off trailers for games on its upcoming next-gen console, the Xbox Series X.

The footage in question can be seen starting at 1:09 in the trailer at the top of this article.

Labeled as “work in progress gameplay captured in Xbox Series X engine,” the clip shows a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Patrick Mahomes scrambles to the endzone, shedding linebacker Christian Kirksey and then dipping past linebacker Oren Burks for the touchdown.

And that’s about it.

The rest of the video is about Madden‘s past, narrated and presented by Mahomes, who mentions that “the game isn’t just about what you can see, but what you can feel.” The quote, which lines up with EA’s early branding around the game (“Feel Next Level”) could have something to do with the capabilities of next-gen platforms, including PS5’s Dualsense haptic feedback capabilities. However, nothing like that has been confirmed by EA so far.

The video does confirm, though, that more news about Madden 21 is on the horizon, which makes sense considering the Madden typically releases sometime in August.

Madden 21 will launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Early Xbox adopters will be able to upgrade Madden 21 on Series X through EA’s Smart-Delivery-adjacent program if they buy the game before December 31, 2020, and redeem a voucher by March 31, 2021.

There is currently no word on if the PlayStation 5 version will take advantage of the same program. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more on Madden 21 as it develops.
