Back in March, Capcom released Darkstalkers Resurrection on the Playstation Network and Xbox Live. The game was a compilation of arguably the two best games in the Darkstalkers franchise, Night Warriors: Darkstalkers’ Revenge and Darkstalkers 3. Despite universally positive reviews from critics the game didn’t garner much support from the gaming community as a whole. It failed to reach Capcom’s sales expectations, and as of now the franchise is being put on hold for the time being with no new games being developed for it any time in the near future.

This isn’t the only franchise being put on hold by Capcom. Despite their popularity and critical acclaim, there have been no new games in the Mega Man or Viewtiful Joe franchises in years. Instead the company has chosen to focus its attention on its larger franchises such as Street Fighter and Resident Evil. Maybe if there’s enough fan reaction Capcom will change their mind and release a new Darkstalkers sometime in the next few years. Then again it did take them eleven years to release a sequel to Marvel vs. Capcom 2, so maybe not.
