Last night the Indiegogo campaign to make Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn beat its goal by $20,000 dollars.

I guess you can call this a reboot of the infamous 1994 Genesis “classic” Shaq-Fu since the game’s FAQ promises that it takes only “the name [and] the starting character” from the original. People can now expect to see a game the developers describe as “Streets of Rage meets Street Fighter meets Devil May Cry.” I’m guessing that means you’ll be pushing the punch button a lot and, if you’re feeling frisky, the jump button.

Joking aside, the above video shows that the developers are well aware that they’re making a silly game with a martial artist basketball player fighting ninjas. Really, all you can do with a game like this is double down on the ridiculous and hope it sticks (think Bayonetta and Asura’s Wrath). Since there’s currently concept art of Arsenio Hall as a Bane/Wolverine hybrid, then I think it’s safe to assume that’s the route they’re taking.

The game will come out for all major systems with 5% of all profits going to the Boys and Girls Club of America.
